The problem, of course, is that we have never really learned about each other. We don’t know the truth. We don’t know what’s happened in this country to create the situations that we’re in. We don’t know what’s causing it, continuing it over a continual period of time, and then therefore, we don’t know any solutions. Uh, we just keep repeating the same violent cycles over and over and over again. And the biggest problem that we have is that we’ve taught Canadians to feel superior, Indigenous peoples to feel inferior, and that’s created problems, systemic injustice, huge gaps throughout every sector, public and private, in the Canadian society. Like, everything. Um, and, so the truth is the most important part. It’s the part in which we talk about the history, we talk about our experiences, we talk about how we feel, what we think. We talk about the ways in which we’ve been constructed to, to see one another, and then, we sort of reflect. We learn. Uh, and then we may take action on that, but that leads us to the second part, which is Reconciliation. Reconciliation is the action part, and if Truth is hard, Reconciliation’s way harder. Reconciliation is the process to actually enact what we’ve learned through the Truth process. Reconciliation is what we do to be able to create, healthy relationships, which may involve sharing resources. It involves sharing land. It means sharing our time with each other, believing that each person actually matters in this country instead of it just being a slogan that we say because it makes us feel better. We actually have to live it. Reconciliation means that we have to commit to it on an everyday basis, and that’s in everything we do, from the moment that we wake up to even past when we go to sleep. We should be dreaming about our relationships with each other. That’s probably the most important act of Reconciliation of all. The barometer of Reconciliation is not awareness. It’s standing up for each other. It’s like standing beside one another when we’re going through the hard times and disagreeing, sticking together. Like, the, the barometer of Reconciliation is never in how we agree. The barometer of Reconciliation is do we stick together when we disagree?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Well, Truth and Reconciliation in the context of now Canada here is really talking about what, how do we create healthy relationships between Indigenous peoples and Canadians?
