They often are involved in prenatal classes, so the actual preparation that parents, mothers and fathers, or mothers and partners, together go through in getting ready for labor and delivery. They often have a role in supporting moms actually in hospitals or as soon as they come out of hospitals with the important establishment of breastfeeding.
