I remember back in the nineties when the first transgender person joined our team.\u00a0 I think\u00a0that\u202fstarted my whole\u00a0journey, actually.\u00a0Some of the educators said,\u202f\u201cAre you going to leave them all alone\u00a0with the children?\u201d\u202fI said,\u202f\u201cThey pass the records checks.\u00a0What\u2019s\u202fthe problem?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They\u202fcouldn\u2019t\u202fanswer that.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The other comment was, \u201cWhat are the children going to think? What are the children going to say? Isn\u2019t that going to bother them?\u201d\u202fI said, \u201cWell, let\u2019s see. Let\u2019s see how this pans out.\u201d So,\u202fthe children went up to our new team member and said,\u202f\u201cYou look like a girl, but your voice is like a boy\u2019s.\u202fWhat\u2019s\u202fwith that?\u201d\u202fShe explained\u202fher journey to the children, not in depth, but a small piece of that journey. And the kids said,\u202f\u201cOkay. All right, can you read\u202fme this book?\u201d\u202fAnd that was that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
