I have talked with people in the field about some of the things that they’re doing, or they intend to do. So just learning what questions to ask, and putting those questions out there, those open-ended types of questions, which again doesn’t always come naturally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And so I had one director tell me that she was posting reflective questions in the back of the bathroom door. So when people went on their breaks, went to the bathroom there’d be a question for reflection there. So I thought that was pretty creative in terms of finding the time and the opportunity. And again, creating that climate that it’s safe to do so. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Developing professional learning communities–and there’s a good example in Manitoba of the professional learning communities that have been developed. And certainly that’s happening here in Nova Scotia as well too–where like-minded colleagues are getting together, almost like a book club, only talking about maybe an article that they’ve read or talking about their documentation, and coming together from different centres, not just from the same centre. So those are some really creative ways. And you know, show the extreme dedication, I think, people have to their profession to do that and to see that there is a need to talk about these things. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
You know, there is a need to talk about – especially if you’ve been in the field for a long time – why don’t we do themes anymore? You know, why is our practice changed the way we do? I know when I first heard about Reggio Emilia I thought, who’s this Reggie guy? You know and then it was, oh, I think we need to buy more wicker baskets. And then it’s not until you truly start talking about it, seeing it in practice and sharing those silly thoughts, but yet they’re – they’re ones that other people go, yeah, me too. I thought it was a guy. And that they can really start thinking critically about what these new current and innovative practices mean to us. You know, to be looking at the child differently. Viewing the child as a creative, competent, capable citizen. That’s new for a lot of people. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
