One of the big challenges that I have now in front of me in my own career is how to bring it all together. We tend to work in silos, people working in child health just working in child health; people working in maternal health just working in maternal health; people do vaccination immunizations just doing that; and at the end of the day while all maybe individually important it\u2019s a collective power all doing it together that makes a difference. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, particularly in our strategy to integrate maternal, newborn, child health, nutrition and development. What I would truly like to see is people aggregating around this not as mere interest groups, but as a working group that some of the other is to develop a conceptual framework that bring all of this together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is, while academically interesting, to work in one or two silos, at the end of the day if you are not able to bring the whole group together to build an integrated picture of how important survival is to development outcomes and vice-versa and how important nutrition and addressing under nutrition is to development outcomes and survival. How important health systems are to making all of this work and how important social determinants are and civic society linkages are to making sure that these things last. Unless we are able to put it together in the same conceptual framework we will not be able to build an integrated action plan. And what is really very important now, is that as we move beyond the millennium goals which as you might know are still for health largely focused on survival that we build an integrative mechanism of bringing health development, human development together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yes, and I think understanding is the first step, the next big challenge would be: how do we bring the implementation together and we do it in a way that has both give and take. Because, when it comes to delivering and working on platforms some things will have to give and we would have to build a common strategy that allows space for everything; and that is a big challenge, that\u2019s what I intend to devote my next ten years to. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
