Morris - prenatal care outcomes

We measure outcome in terms of maternal morbidity or illness during pregnancy and mortality which is death. We have very few of those. In developing countries we still see a lot. For the baby, again, it’s what kinds of illness does the baby suffer after birth and how many neonatal deaths or early childhood deaths do we have, so prenatal care can impact both of those favorably. Part of it is because we’re able to identify and manage any maternal complications of the pregnancy in a timely fashion. And if you’ve provided the best quality pregnancy for a fetus, you’re going to have much better outcomes for the fetus.
