Jain – children’s rights and gender

When thinking about different biases that exist that might impact our ability to support gender diverse children, often culture or religion will come up, and folks will say, but supporting a child who is gender diverse, I’m not able to do that because that is outside of my religion, or it’s outside of my culture, or my family values. 

And so, it’s really important for us as educators to remember that children have rights, right? 

And we have to come to practice unpacking our bias and make sure that we are treating children from a children’s rights perspective and creating inclusive environments for all children as well as gender diversity.
