Black – 2011 Lancet Series

In the 2011 series in the Lancet, we looked at additional risk factors that included such things as maternal depression, as infections such as malaria and HIV and exposure to violence. So we moved beyond the nutrition and poverty indicators. In that series we also looked at interventions that were available and we estimated the cost of not investing, so that by not investing in early child development there are large economic costs to countries. 

The economists on our team sorted that out and you could by estimating the grades attained by children and the grades that were lost by being either stunted or in poverty and then what the impact of that would be on countries.
