Afifi - child maltreatment

So, there’s been many poor outcomes related to child maltreatment. There are problems with relationships, there are cognitive developmental problems, there are physical health conditions that are related. So, we’ve found in terms of physical health, there’s related to cardiovascular disease, pain conditions, migraines, back problems, arthritis. So, there’s many physical health problems that are related to child maltreatment. 

There’s been a very large literature that shows that child maltreatment is related to poor mental health outcomes.  So that can include post-traumatic stress disorder, other anxiety disorders, depression, as well as thinking about and attempting suicide, and also a really robust relationship with substance use.
