Massey - Statement on inclusion and diversity

At our centre, we’ve learned that being “blind” to race, gender identity, or family structure doesn’t create fairness – it creates silence. And silence can allow bias and inequality to go unchecked. When we say we treat everyone the same, but don’t acknowledge the ways people experience the world differently, we risk missing the opportunity to truly support every child, every family, and every educator.

Creating an inclusive environment means being intentional. It means recognizing that each person brings their own identity, history, and story – and that those stories deserve to be reflected, respected, and celebrated in our centres. It also means creating policies and practices that protect and uplift employees, especially those from marginalized communities, so they can thrive and lead.

Gender diversity and inclusion are not just ideals – they’re actions. In our centre, we’ve embraced inclusive hiring, invested in employee training, and created leadership pathways for educators of all identities. We’ve worked to ensure that every child feels seen, not in spite of who they are, but because of who they are.

This work is ongoing. We’re always learning, always listening, and always striving to do better. But what we’ve seen – without question – is that when children grow up in environments where everyone is valued, they grow up more confident, more empathetic, and more connected to the world around them.

Inclusion isn’t something we add on – it’s something we live, every day. And that’s the foundation of a truly nurturing, equitable early learning environment.
