Knowing how children learn to cope and become competent in the early years helps adults to provide supports and appropriate&nbsp;environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Charles Nelson is a\u00a0professor of Pediatrics and Neuroscience at Harvard Medical School. He describes the concept of \u00a0\u201cexpectant environment\u201d \u2013 that\u00a0babies are born expecting their needs to be taken care of in a sensitive, consistent way without being pressured or over-stimulated.
